Introduction Project

In evaluation to this project, I have developed some new skills, for example, I have learnt about distances of shots and how to integrate the Images taken into a story board and what a story board needs. Also I have learnt how to expand a selection box In Photoshop. Although I have gain some skills there are still some skills I feel I have weaknesses In, I thInk that I need to develop my camera skIlls in lIghtIng and depth of fIeld as some of the Images taken where dark and also sometImes blurry. I think that by developing the skills that I am weak in then I will become much better in media.

In the task we were asked to take a produce and re-brand it, to do this we made a new advert that would make it appealing to an audience that it didn’t appeal to before. We were given pilchards and they normally are aimed at older people that grew up when the pilchards came out or in the World War when people were rationed. The target audience we had to rebrand it for was 16 to 19 year olds, it could be either males or females but I think that our advert would appeal to males more. The advert was of a man in a pilchards box being chased, while he was shouting at the chaser to ‘come get me’ and ‘you know you was some’, I think that this is appealing to our target audience as it is a funny advert and younger people, mainly males, tend to remember funnier adverts. Although it was a good idea it had faults like it wasn’t really relevant to the product which make the audience draw away from what it was really about and concentrate mostly on the entertainment of the adverts. I think that our advert does meet the requirements of the task set as, like i have said, people enjoy a funny advert and they tend to stick in the mind of younger people, I do think though that things could be changed for example more people chasing the man, or maybe the man throwing pilchards at people to make the advert even more entertaining and influential.

This unit I have developed my Photoshop skills more as I learnt how to use the expand tool which is very useful when trying to give text different effect. I think that I have used these skills reasonably well in this task as the work that I produced seems to be at a high standard. I think that my story board Is the weakest part of this task as I don’t think that I learn enough about It and didn’t know about many of the different kinds of camera shots. I think I could Improve It If I looked up and researched story boards and what they normally contain.  I think that if this was to be done again I would probably make the story board bigger with more pictures and with more detail about each image, I think I would also change the way the camera was used, as some of the pictures were blurry and a little dark.

I think that’s this project shows that I understand the audience segmentation system because it shows that I have thought about whom I’m targeting and what kind of things interest them and what things annoy them. For example if I was trying to get an older person to buy my produce then I wouldn’t use bright flashy colours as it wouldn’t appeal to them, it would probably put them off. Also thinking about the sex and sexuality of the person helped with the decision as, and advert for a woman would, be different from one aimed at men, this is because they have different preferences and different ideas of a good advert.

  1. Chris - can you please include images of previous work that you have produced in ART graphics so that we can clearly identify your skills development over the next year. This is very important that you upload this material.

Some good work here Chris - I like your costume design - very inventive - Can you identify 6 clear tools or skills areas that you want to master in photoshop or within your photography over the next year (brush tool, pen tool and so on) in a new blog comment.

There are numerous websites you could use to help you locate tutorials to tackle this - check out:
